Surat Raktadan Kendra & Research Centre (SRKRC); is a voluntary blood bank with a vision to develop along the way the various types of transfusion medicine based management and training of manpower in the field in the city of Surat. This centre has started its journey way back in 1976 and during its continuous evolution it has changed its space within the city so that it can accommodate its ever increasing aspirations. These aspirations were not in vain several very able directors under a very strong Board of Trusties leadership this blood transfusion centre has silently scaled many heights. It has not only become 100 % voluntary blood donor blood bank , it is the biggest blood bank in the area and as a NABH accredited Regional transfusion Centre it looks after 60 lakhs population of Surat and with its many storage centres around Surat it helps many patients during their earnest hours of need for compatible blood.
This blood bank unlike others has also research aspirations and developed good research programmes over the years. Looking at its research performance DSIR has given the centre a SIRO status and following its successful performance Government of India has provided income tax exemptions to any donation to this organization under 35AC, hence this will definitely brighten our ability to get donation for research. SRKRC has also embarked on an ambitious plan and recently have started Stem cell bank and Stem cell based research with an eye for its application in alleviating human suffering. Considering the small size of the research staffs of this organization publication of numerous papers in national and international journals with elevated impact factor from the Institute alone can be regarded as creditworthy. However we should try to produce better quality papers through various collaborations.
